AW Ashley Obituary (1925

AW Ashley, 90, of Crossville, Illinois, died Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi, Illinois. He was born August 20, 1925, in Arkansas City, Kansas, the son of Arthur W. and Mabel L. (Grooms) Ashley. He was married to Mary Lou (Powell) Ashley on December 3, 1949, and she preceded him in death on July 28, 2013. AW was a mechanic and well known in the Crossville area as proprietor of Ashleys Garage in Crossville. He was a World War II Navy veteran and member of the VFW and the First Baptist Church in Carmi. Among his pastimes were woodworking, wood carving, guitar building, flying remote control airplanes and doing anything mechanical. Survivors include daughter Teresa Weaver and her husband J.R. Williams of Carmi; grandchildren Teresa (Chris) Denham of Princeton, Indiana, Christina (Tyler) Woolsey of Springfield, Illinois, Amy Lee (Zeff) Brunkow of Olney, Illinois; great grandchildren Mikkaela, Ashley, Alaina, Olivia, Max and Isabel. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister Cora Mae Edwards; and son-in-law Richard Weaver. Visitation is 5-7 pm, Friday, January 22nd at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi. Funeral is 10 am, Saturday, January 23rd at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi. Burial with military rites will be in White County Memorial Gardens near Carmi.
