Dr. Charles William Myrna, D.D.S., 90, from Carmi, Illinois, passed away on January 12, 2016 in Evansville, Indiana. He was born in Eldorado, Illinois on September 6, 1925, the son of Charles and Apolonia (Dieter) Myrna. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dr. Theodore D. Myrna, M.D. and sister-in-law Jane Myrna, of Peoria, Illinois.
His Catholic faith was deeply important to him and sustained him throughout his life. He was an active member of St. Polycarp Catholic Church and served on the Finance Committee for many devoted years. He was involved with the annual ice cream social, making and serving his favorite specialties.
He had fond memories of growing up in Eldorado and often told stories of working in his parents grocery store, fishing and great times spent with his cousin Johnny Mackovjak. At the age of 18, he was called to serve his country in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in Hawaii.
He attended the University of Illinois and graduated from St. Louis University School of Dentistry in 1953. He practiced dentistry for 45 dedicated and wonderful years in Carmi. His patients and work brought him much joy. While having many talents, the precision of his hands gave him hobbies of woodworking, playing tennis, working on cars and fishing. He shared his love of the ocean with his family, taking annual vacations to the beach.
While in dental school he met the love of his life, Mary Jane DuPar, from Atlanta, Georgia. They married on October 31, 1953. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Jane Myrna, daughters, Carol L. Meyers, Nancy M. Given, and son-in-law, John R. Given, in addition to nieces, nephews and cousins in the Myrna, Mackovjak and Duchene families.
