Frances L. Cook

Frances L. Cook, 90, of Carmi, Illinois, died peacefully, Sunday, February 1, 2015, at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. She was born August 28, 1924, in Carmi, the daughter of Roy and Hattie (Vaughn) Leathers. She was married to Melfred L. Cook on June 29, 1947, and he preceded her in death on May 14, 2006.

Fran was a member of the First Christian Church in Carmi. She was a homemaker until her sons were older and then had a career as a legal secretary. She enjoyed playing bridge, ballroom dancing, reading, jigsaw puzzles, flower gardening, landscaping, cooking, traveling, bird watching, politics and home improvements.

Survivors include sons Dr. Michael (Karen) Cook of Harrisburg, Illinois, Tom (Beth) Cook of Carmi; brother-in-law Don Uhde of Mt. Vernon, Indiana; grandchildren Melissa Cook, Philip (Racheal) Cook, Brian (Amy) Cook, Rachel (Chris) Mullis, Stacia McGuire and fianc Eddie Penrod, Chad (Sally) Lakatos, Adam Lakatos (Cindy Dutton); 14 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson Christopher Cook; brother Roy Leathers; sister Eleanor Uhde.

Visitation is 4-7 pm Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi. Funeral service will be at 10 am, Thursday, February 5, 2015, at Cook Funeral Chapel with burial in White County Memorial Gardens.
