Carmi, Illinois
Lucy Nell Scott, 80, departed this world to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, January 25, 2016, from complications of pneumonia.
Born to Quinton and Alma Wave (Spencer) McKnight, Lucy Nell lived most of her life in the communities of Crossville and Carmi in southern Illinois. Growing up, she often rode her horse to the now-closed Crossville Schools. A former cheerleader and proud alumni of Crossville High School (class of 1953), for 61 years she never missed the annual Alumni Banquet.
Lucy was formerly married to the late Raymond Scott with whom she had four sons. When they were young, Lucy waited tables at The Steakhouse in Carmi. After her boys were older and moved out west with their father, Lucy worked at the Executive Inn in Evansville, and later retired as a cook from the Evansville State Hospital. After retirement, she enjoyed sitting on her front porch in Carmi, waving at passers-by and watching children at the school across the street.
Lucy is survived by three sons, Perry, of New Orleans, LA, Van (Wanda) of Phillipstown, IL, and Todd (Becca) of Evansville; six grandchildren, Gary Jr. (Mindy) of Burlington, IA, Levi (Emily) and Moses (Madeline) of Crossville, and Olivia, Alexander and Adam of Evansville; four great-grandchildren, Braiden, Raeleyna, and Alyssa Scott, and Spencer Scott-Kuhen; a sister, Diane Brown of Texas; and two nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her son Gary, her parents, her brother Chancey Lee McKnight, and her brother-in-law Don Brown.
Lucy enjoyed sending and receiving cards. She was an avid collector of frogs in memory of her son Gary who had a beloved frog toy as a little boy. She was a lifetime member of Crossville United Methodist Church and also a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Carmi.
She spent the last three years of her life at West River Health Campus in Evansville and grew fond of many fellow residents and caregivers there.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at Crossville United Methodist Church, 408 Second Street. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 28, from 4:00 7:00 and before the funeral at 10:00 on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Crossville UMC or to the Crossville Alumni Association, PO Box 152, Crossville. The family requests no more frogs, but if friends and loved ones would like to decorate her casket with frog stickers, Lucy would have certainly loved that.
